Stuxnet was specifically designed to attack an automation network by taking control of the programmable logic controllers in a nuclear enrichment facility. Because of the popularity and media coverage that Stuxnet received, attackers have discovered that SCADA and ICS targets are attractive. It was not long until these systems were targeted. The U.S. ICS-CERT, a branch of the Department of Homeland security, has been monitoring, reporting, and issuing advisories of increased vulnerabilities.
